We’re half-way through summer holidays already and many people will have been away, near and far, to experience new places. We all love a new view and take pleasure in capturing this on camera to share with friends and family.
With this in mind, this week we have been thinking about the views that our patients see. Strathcarron Hospice is blessed to be situated in such a peaceful location and this photo has actually been taken from the room of a current patient showing our lovely surroundings, as seen from their bed. You may not know this but nearly all of our bedrooms have French windows and so patient beds can be taken outdoors – no matter what stage of life we are at there is no better feeling than the sun’s warmth on your skin.
Recently a lovely lady visited the Hospice following the death of her son. Due to her own ill-health she had been unable to visit during his stay but he had described every detail of his surroundings to her in many conversations and when she arrived she said it was exactly how she had imagined it to be from his descriptions; including the grounds and view from his bed.
After a loved one has passed away many people do still visit us just to sit, look back on happy memories and take comfort from the peaceful surroundings in such a beautiful place. Perhaps we sometimes take these things for granted but a hospice setting reminds us all to appreciate the beauty in nature all around us.
Life can’t always be perfect but your view of the world can be.
