Hospice Film Premieres in USA

The film “Seven Songs for a Long life” which follows the lives of six extraordinary patients at Strathcarron Hospice is about to receive its USA premiere at the South by South West film festival in Austin Texas.

Day care staff nurse, Mandy Malcolmson, who plays a key role in the film, and sings so movingly, has received funding from the film makers to attend and she flies off to Texas on Friday. This is an amazing coup and the Hospice and Mandy are absolutely thrilled. Mandy commented “I feel really excited and very privileged to be representing Strathcarron and all the patients and families involved in the film. We will be holding a question and answer session after each of the three screenings and we also hope to involve the audience in a workshop, asking people to think about what is important in their lives and how this could change if they were told they had a life limiting illness. We might even get them singing!”

The film has already been shown on BBC 2 and was screened in over 100 locations across the UK, with hospices and cinemas showing the film. Strathcarron is delighted that so many other hospices were prepared to show a film about Strathcarron Hospice and could relate to it as a good representation of hospice care.

As well as the USA, the film has been screened in locations as diverse as Helsinki and Prague.

Copies of the DVD are on sale at the Hospice and directly from the Scottish documentary Institute.
