Every day at Strathcarron Hospice patients and families come through our doors for the first time fearful and apprehensive but these feelings are often allayed within a matter of minutes. Most of our Day Care patients tell us that at first they were very uncertain about attending day care, but had been very pleasantly surprised by the happy atmosphere and wonderful support they received.
Strathcarron Hospice Day Care Unit is a vibrant loving and self- supporting community which enables people to remain in their own homes whilst receiving the extended support of the Hospice. Day Care helps to support 100 patients each week through a range of issues whether they are physical, emotional, social or spiritual. For some, it is companionship and meeting others in a similar situation which they find beneficial: for others, it is the reassurance of knowing that there are staff who will be able to help them.
Day care is a creative haven where people go to enjoy living and get to know others in an accepting and supportive environment. One Strathcarron Day Care patient said: “I’ve never regretted my decision to come to Day Care. It’s a feeling of safety. My illness always falls into the background when I’m here”. However patients are feeling on any particular day there is always something and somewhere for them in Day Care, whether it is the quiet of the relaxation room and conservatory or the hubbub of the main lounge or craft room.
We always understand that things are not always what they seem: patients may be dealing with the most difficult of life situations, but a little expert care, kindness and support goes such a long way and can make all the difference in the world.
