Best foot forward for Hospice

Many of you will know Strathcarron Hospice celebrated our 35th year of providing specialist palliative care and support to the people of Falkirk and surrounding areas earlier this year.

There have been many changes during the past 35 years in terms of the care we offer, particularly as the range of services has extended into our communities, rather than being restricted the actual Hospice building. However, one thing that has remained a constant is the fact we exist for, and because of, these communities who financially support by making donations or fundraising on our behalf.

In 1980, a year before our actual opening, a young man from Stirling University decided he wanted to do something to help towards the cost of opening the Hospice. Bob Lavery organised a fundraising run and made a donation. Bob had never actually visited us to see how his fundraising helped to make us what we are today so we welcomed him and his wife along recently and he was astounded by what he saw and incredibly humbled to find out how his fundraising got us on our way.

Maybe Bob and his support can inspire you to be part of Team Strathcarron at next year’s Stirling Marathon. This is a first for Stirling and Strathcarron Hospice is an official charity partner of this brand new marathon. Places are limited as there are expected to be 10,000 runners taking part so to be in with a chance of this wonderful opportunity visit www.strathcarronhospice.net
