This workshop will focus on the practice of using relaxation and gentle massage to promote comfort and support to patients with palliative care needs. The basic principles of gentle massage will be discussed with practical demonstration of gentle massage of hands, feet and over clothing. In addition demonstration of ‘holding’ and the use of some relaxation techniques, including the use of voice and how it can be used to support the hands on work will be explored in the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for all registered nursing staff, health care assistants and AHP’s working within hospitals, hospices, care homes and the community.
Learning outcomes include:
- Explore the principles of gentle massage & relaxation in palliative care
- Participate in practical demonstration and practice of gentle massage of hand and foot and ‘over clothing’ technique.
- Discuss approaches to involve and support family members in the provision of gentle massage and relaxation for their loved one
